Playing By My Rules
ReplyDeleteI was seven according to the American formula,
I was eight by the Chinese calendar
I discovered that for the whole game
One must gather invisible strength.
I read the rules,
I looked up all the big words in a dictionary
A light wind began blowing past my ears
It whispered secrets only I could hear.
Going to school, then directly home,
Learning new chess secrets
Clearly concealed advantages
More capable routes.
I was gathered up by the wind
I closed my eyes and pondered my next move.
Bite your tongue back,
ReplyDeleteI wish her not to against the wind.
San Francisco’s Chinatown is,
Her bowl was always full,
With three-five course meals every day.
The best playground for Chinese.
Is Chinese torture?
Shook her head.
We do business, do medicine, do painting,
Not lazy as American.
The truths could make me rise above our circumstances,
ReplyDeletesecrets my Mother began to keep--less to lose.
I remember when I was playing, and I won.
It was my Mothers win, I didn't say more, in my Mothers tight grasp.
I ran, until I realized I had no where to go.
It's not shame, I'm angry.
I fled, away from my Mother, to the dark.
But at the end I was a small playground.
People played with me, my borders.
But i knew that the biggest weren't always the nicest.
I begged, unable to let go of the outcome.
My invisible strengths for advantages, to become strong.
My next move... a surprise.
