The significance to eating American food instead of Chinese food is to share their culture and bond over it because then they started to talk a lot for how much time they had miss seeing each other.
Well thinking back to the first parable, with the swan and having only one of it's feathers, the significance is the cultural difference/barrier. They’ve been separated for a while in two different parts of the world. Nonetheless they still came together to assimilate with one another and this helped to reconnect them.
She knew her family was the type of family to stay together. When she saw the doll she had given to her youngest niece she knew they had all died. The youngest niece was inseparable from the doll and seeing the house destroyed along with the doll in shambles she knew the family had been gone forever.
Suyuan knew that her entire family had been killed in the bombing because in the remains of what was the house, Suyuan found a doll that a niece always carried with her all the time. If the niece was in the house when the bomb fell, then her parents and the rest of the family must also have been there.

What is the significance of this being the last story of the book? What closure does it provide for June, as well all the other stories and the book as a whole?
The significance of this being the last story is to express the idea that this book is trying to show how at the beginning, the daughters did not connect with their roots, but by the end, they emerge themselves into their Chinese backgrounds by understanding their mothers much more. Each section of the book portrayed different ideas, yet one of the biggest ideas that linked everything together was the idea that people should understand their background in order to understand themselves and who they are. As we learned about each individual mother followed by each individual daughter, I believe that the last section begins to develop a rope like bond between the daughters and mothers. Each daughter begins to understand why they look and act the way they do. For instance, Suyuan began the journey of trying to find the past, while June ended the journey by understanding her roots and getting to know what makes up her blood, flesh, and bones. Therefore, the last story links all of the stories back together by tying a knot on the idea that to understand yourself and who you are, you have to connect back to your roots.
Being in China ignites the Chinese that was always within June from the time she was born. Seeing and being in China gives her a sense of belonging and makes her feel as if she is meant to be there. Being in China allows her to connect with her blood line in a way that she wasn't able to do before. In the story mothers and daughters share a common past and present because they are all connected through blood.
Growing up June never understood her mother. They had a rocky relationship, and they weren't always on the same side. When going to China, June saw what her mother had to go through when she was Junes age, and felt as if she finally knew her mother. June saw her mother within her sisters and herself. The mothers and daughters intertwine because they all share the same qualities, but because they grew up in different lifetimes, the daughters express it differently. you can see the the mothers reflections within the daughters eyes.
Being in China enhances June’s connection to her mother because the journey that was begun by Suyuan was ended by June and led to June discovering the other half of herself that she did not know really well. When June arrived in China, she felt different because she began to link with her “Chinese face” rather than her “American face.” She began to learn about her mother’s past and about the other family that was miles away from America. She began to understand more about where her mother came from and how her actions were induced by her experiences. All of the daughters in the stories began to understand their mothers in the last section of the book because each of them began to understand the sacrifices that their mothers made and how their actions were induced by their mothers’ experiences.
Being in China enhances June's connection to her mother b/c she's is in the place where her mother spend half of her life. June got to see the house she lived, the memories that was saved, the pictures of her childhood. June got a better understanding of how Suyuan grew up. The mothers and the daughters intertwined in the stories by understanding each other no matter how hard it was. The daughters formed a kind of respect towards their mothers, after hearing and seeing how they grew up and dealt with their problems. Though they may have been raised completely differently, they have come to a form of respect, seeing the sacrifices each other made.
As they take the polaroid picture together, after the first time of seeing each other, they see that all three of them make up their mother. They see that they have her eyes, and her mouth. That together they are complete, this is what their Mother has always wished for, even though she can't be there, her daughters are now finally together. And June now finally sees the Chinese in herself. She says that they are her family and that Chinese is in her blood.
The Polaroid signifies the long awaited captured moment of finally seeing all 3 Suyuan daughters reunited. The Polaroid is also something that preserves a moments and cherishes Suyuan‘s dreams of coming back to China. Something Suyuan would of wished to see.
The reunion shows how even though they haven't seen each other for over 50 years they still have an instant family connection. They treat each other as if they've never been apart and try to make the best out of their time together. When they first meet, June takes a picture of the two, so they can always remember this moment. And June has never met the aunt either, but that doesn't keep the aunt from treating her as close family.
The reunion between the father and his aunt shows that familial connections are everlasting. No matter how far and wide you go, you are still tied to your family. The bond between aunt and nephew is just another instance of how important family is. Decades have past, many things have changed both their lives but they still are able to retain their connection. In the same way, the mothers and daughters are all connected to one another no matter how different they seem. Your family is in you, and you are in your family.
After so many years they are still able to recognize their own blood. You will always know who your family is even if they aren't able to go everywhere with you. Building on what Allison said you and your family are the same entity and you can always see yourself when looking at them because it is like looking at a reflection.
The significance about Suyuan's name is that it means long-cherished wish or never forgotten. Meaning that as long as June and the twins are alive, they will forever hold onto what Suyuan wished for. That Suyuan isn't gone, she will always remain in June and the twins's heart. All Suyuan wanted was to make sure her daughters were happy, and her wish came true. It took a long time but her family is finally reunited and she found peace. It's like a happy ending.
I think Jin-Mei's name symbolizes her last wishes as she wasn't able to complete about her hopes to find her two twin daughters so instead it would be Jing-mEi to reunite the family.
Jing means “essence” or “best quality.” Mei means “little sister.” She represents the essence of the other two sisters, a constant reminder that Suyuan hopes to see them again.
When Suyuan left her babies, it was important for her to leave them with a reminder that they are not alone and are loved. By sacrificing all her values and her own self, it was the only way to save them. The money and pictures that she left with her babies represented the hope to reunite in the future. Suyuan could not imagine not seeing them alive, she had faith that someone would save them because she couldn't.
I mean in a way she does regret leaving her babies behind. But Suyuan had to do. She had to leave them behind and start a new life. She left these babies so then they can have a better life. But Suyuan did have one wish. Which was to make all her daughters together.
I would say June was successful in achieving Suyuan's dream which was to get news about her daughters and June's twin sisters and reunite with them, when Suyuan was still live they were no where to be found and they didn't know if the twins were still alive or not, but after Suyuan died news came that they found the twins and June reunited with them.
Because she is ABC. She has an American Brain, but a chinese body. That's why June have trouble accepting her Chinese identity until she finally visited China.
June had trouble accepting her chinese identity in America because she was so heavily influenced by the American society that looked down on ethnic cultures. As she grew up and became accustomed to surviving in America, she had to push chinese values away. Back home, June would have no choice but to face and accept that being Chinese wasn't good. But in China, with her mother in her mind, she gets to see the other side of herself without America clashing it. She can finally see China objectively and how this is a part of her.
June fulfills her mothers dreams because I think one of her biggest wishes was to see all her daughters together. Her mother always wanted to know if these twins were still alive or at least have some closure. But when June goes to China she is also giving her half sisters the closure they deserve. All the other mothers encouraged June to go because there is no other person who could tell the twins about their own mother better.
June carries Suyuan's dreams by allowing herself to connect with her roots. As part of the relationship between mother's and daughters, it was important for June tot translate all her mothers memories and make them into her won as an only way to fulfill her mothers legacy. The reunion of June and her sisters shows that although her sisters lived in different circumstances they are still connected through their blood because they are family.
Suyuan always had a dream to have her daughters be together. After Suyuan passed away it was hard for June to know her background and the fact that she had twin sisters. Suyuan always wanted to know if they were alive. So what June does is she goes to China. She goes to China to meet her twins and tell them about their mother.
Suyuan's name is significant because it signifies the preservation of her wishes. Even thought at first her wishes were unknown to June, she knew deep inside she had a stronger connection with her mother, therefore leading her to her fate. Soon being able to visit and meet her sisters for the first time in China. It also lead for June to finding her identity, in which often stumbled upon her.
Suyuan's long cherished wish was to be able to find and reunite with her daughters that she had left behind on that road, wishing for their survival and them being alive.
